DESCRIPTION
- Primarily characterized by excessive weight loss and self starvation
- Also by refusing to eat the amount of food that is required to maintain good health
- Found in younger population average ages 15-18
- Mainly found in females and celebrities
- Some men have it as well, society calls it MANOREXIA

- Also characterized by another disorder called "Body Dysmorphic Disorder"
- "BDD" causes anorexics to desire a body much different than their own.

SYMPTOMS
- Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat
- Very poor self image
- Body weight and shape is directly related to how good they feel about themselves
- Denial about the fact that they even have a disorder
- Always thinking that they are bigger than what they really are
DIAGNOSIS
- The "Eating Disorder Exam"
- (BMI) measurement of body fat
- General observation of physical symptoms
- " " " personal history
- Several tests to seek complications of starvation
TREATMENT
- Nutritional rehabilitation
- Counseling for up to 10 yrs.

- Raped at 12 yrs. and became anorexic due to the assault
- She still appears to be anorexic but denies the disorder
- It affects her performance and she has lost fans because of it
- She has no desire to be thin, she just claims to have no appetite
