The early Anime industry was greatly influence by the western inventions of the motion picture and the comic strip in newspaper. The industry also greatly depended on Osama Tezuka which set the image of how modern characters today look like. His characters had big eyes as to make it easier for him to make them show emotions easier, which the character today follow.

How it's changed over time.

Anime has greatly changed over time before the era of Osama Tezuka characters didn't have the big eyes that they have today. Today the characters are one of the only things that have changed greatly.
