What is an animator?

  • An animator is someone who either draws, or manipulates things in a frame by frame process. Thus making individual pictures so, when played, they create the illusion of a moving image.

What do they need to know?

  • Animators need to know how to do basic drawing. Not every animator must be amazing at drawing, as some choose to use CGI or 3D programming. But a majority of animators must be good at drawing and drawing movements. They must also know how to use programs that allow animations to happen.

How do you become one?

  • Anyone can become an animator. Firstly, you have to complete a variety of courses and lessons, in order to animate properly. Then, you should probably get a bit of experience under you belt.

Prerequisites?

  • Some prerequisites that you need to become an animator are: completion of an animation course and having gotten your Bachelor of Design. Next, you will most likely have to create portfolios that showcase both your talents and capabilities. The final step, would be applying at an animation studio or workplace where you would like to do animation.

Processes to design?

  • When designing, animators have several processes. There are first, base sketches. These are sketches of any ideas that they have for what they will be animating. Next is development. They take key ideas and points from their base sketches and develop these into final designs. While this is happening, they may start to work on the story boarding. Story boarding is the process of drawing sketches of main gestures so they have a general idea of what will be happening in that scene and what dialogue will be spoken, or actions preformed. After this, they can begin work on the animation once everything has been cleared. During the drawing and animating process, or even before, they will look for voices to voice act the characters, so that they have audio to work off of (for mouth movement and gestures)
