Characteristics
Bighorn sheep have a dark to medium rich brown head, neck, and dorsal body with a short black tail and a white muzzle, rump, and ventral patches. Both sexes have sturdy muscular bodies and strong necks that support horns that curve back in females and are much larger and curled around in males
Distribution
In British Columbia, Bighorns occupythe dry valleys and mountains of the Okanagan, South Cariboo, and South Chilcotin regions.
Food and Enemies
Bighorns eat vegetation like grass, leaves and clovers.
Predators like mountain lions, wolves, bobcats, coyotes and golden eagles are posing a bigger threat to Bighorns then they used too
Characteristics
Billies weigh on average 70 to 120
kg, nannies 55 to 75 kg. Both
have thin, black stiletto-like horns up to 30 cm long. Nannies’
s horns are more slender at the base and a bit more curved toward the
tip than those of
billies
Distribution
In British Columbia, goats are present in most
mountain ranges except for those on Vancouver
Island, the Queen Charlottes, and other coastal
islands
Food and Enemies
They
survive by eating a wide variety of plants, including lichens, ferns, grasses, herbs, shrubs, and deciduous or coniferous trees.
Golden Eagles are their biggest enemies.
