People who use power for personal gain lack good character.
NAPOLEON
- Napoleon changes the farm rules for his and the pigs own personal gain.
- "No animal shall kill another animal without cause." (Orwell 63)
- He made the pigs change this rule to make it okay for him to discipline animals who disobeyed rules.
- Napoleon overall manipulated the animals into thinking that all of his actions were good.

JOSEPH STALIN
- Dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics from 1929-1953.
- Ruled by terror; millions of citizens died during his rule.
- "The soviet union was transformed from a pleasant society into an industrial and military superpower."
- Took control over farms.
- Killed anyone who opposed him.
HOW IS NAPOLEON ALLEGORICALLY IMPORTANT TO THE BOOK?
- George Orwell uses Napoleon to symbolize Joseph Stalin during the Russian Revolution.
- Napoleon took over the entire farm just like Stalin would take over farms during his rule.
- Napoleon used propaganda by changing the farm rules.
Both Napoleon and Joseph Stalin killed people who went against them.
