ABOUT BOXER

  • Boxer was the hard working workhorse of the farm.
  • He pushed all the animals to work as hard as he did.
  • The animals looked up to him and did whatever he did.
  • He was the strongest, yet nicest of the farm.
  • Splits his hoof by working too hard.

WHY WAS BOXER SIGNIFICANT?

  • Boxer was helpful to the plot in many ways.
  • He sets up the animals to work and gives them motivation.
  • "Napoleon is always right." (Chapter 6 Page 61)
  • He was always loyal to leaders, and he was well respected.
  • When he dies, Napoleon goes against the animal code and sends him to the slaughter house.

"I do not understand it. I would not have believed that such things could happen on our farm. It must be due to some fault in ourselves. The solution, as I see it, is to work harder. From now onwards I shall get up a full hour earlier in the mornings."

ANALYSIS
Napoleon ordered his nine dogs to attack the pigs who had committed the crimes to confess. Once they did, the dogs ripped their throats out. That is against the rules of the Animal Farm.

ANALYSIS CONTINUED
Boxer stands up and says he doesn't get it. He promises to work harder in fear of getting killed by dogs. Napoleon puts fear into the animals by death.

ANALYSIS CONTINUED
The animals are now scared to make mistakes or do something wrong, so they just work harder. Boxer keeps leading this by example.
