WHO DISCOVERED ANGELMAN'S DISEASE?

  • A man named Dr.Harry Angelman named the disease after him
  • when he observed several children with strange characteristics
  • such as unusual happiness, severe mental delay and seizures.
  • It was originally named "Happy Puppet Syndrome" but was later
  • changed to Angelman's disease.

WHAT BODY SYSTEM DOES THIS AFFECT?

  • Angelman's Disease mainly affects the central
  • nervous system.
  • This is the main cause for mental delay and
  • frequent seizures.

HOW DOES A PERSON RECEIVE THIS DISORDER?

  • Angelman's Disease is a result of a complex
  • genetic mutation caused by delayed DNA
  • duplication. Common signs and symptoms appear
  • in early childhood.

ARE THERE TREATMENTS FOR ANGELMAN'S DISEASE?

  • It depends how bad the syndrome can get,
  • treatments include:
  • Anti-seizure medication and if necessary
  • Medical therapy.
