Aneurysm

What is it?

  • Saclike formation on artery wall
  • If it ruptures, hemorrhage, occurs
  • Hemorrhage could cause death

Causes

  • Disease
  • Congenital defects
  • Injuries leading to weakened arterial wall structure

Symptoms

  • Not really many symptoms
  • Some cause pain and pressure
  • Others generate no symptoms
  • Depends on the location

Treatment

  • Surgically removing the damaged area of blood vessel
  • Replacing it with plastic graft or another blood vessel

Common sites

  • Cerebral artery
  • Aortal
  • Abdominal

Avoidable

  • You can stop it from rupturing
  • There isn't really a way to avoid getting one
  • If you have one you could have an operation to prevent a rupture

How do you get it?

  • It can be hereditary
  • If it is hereditary, at least two family members have to have one also
