DESCRIPTION

  • Provide care for patients to control pain and distress.
  • Help ensure the safety of patients in surgery.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of anesthetic and administration of anesthetics.
  • Must talk with patients to establish a plan for the anesthetics.
  • This may involve putting patients to sleep or sedation.
  • Sedation is medication to make the patient calm or numb body.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR JOB

  • Must have completed an accredited internship.
  • Completed an anesthesiology residency.
  • Must have at least 30 hours continuing medical education.
  • Must maintain certification (MOC). Each MOC is 10 years.

  • General Biology with lab - 6 semester hours
  • General Chemistry with lab - 6 semester hours
  • Organic Chemistry with lab - 3 semester hours
