FOOD

  • Eat 5 meals a day. Breakfast, second breakfast, dinner, desert and supper
  • Klopsiki - A kind of meatloaf with tomato sauce
  • Kurczak de volaille - Chicken steaks with butter and filled with mushrooms
  • Golonka w piwie - A pork knuckle served in beer sauce and horseradish
  • Knedle - Dumplings made of potatoes and stuffed with plums

DEATH

  • In Poland, when someone goes missing, they may be pronounced dead after 10 years.
  • A way of dealing with death is to mourn and be sad. Rarely someone will carry on and keep smiling.
  • After the funeral, someone organizes a post-funeral get-together where they have speeches an eat.
  • At the funeral, people wear dark clothing.
  • During the funeral there will be a picture book with many pictures of the person who died.

WEDDINGS

  • Dancing is a big deal in weddings. Proper, couple dancing is expected. Not hip-hop dancing.
  • Sometimes go on for 2 days. The second day is known as "Poprawiny".
  • The groom traditionally "buys a bride". Meaning the groom goes to the brides house and gives her alcohol.
  • The wedding couples cut the cake at midnight.
  • There is a dollar dance where guests pay a dollar to dance with one of the couples to raise money

RELIGION

  • Most people in Poland rely on the Christian faith.
  • Freedom of religion is ensured to everyone.
  • 90% of Christians are Catholic.
  • There are many places considered holy, to Christians, like the monastery of Jasna Gora.
  • 2% of the people are Atheist.

LANGUAGE

  • There are over 50 million speakers of the Polish language.
  • Learn Polish and you get some West-Slavonic languages for free because they are very similar.
  • Considered a very hard language to learn.
  • The first complete sentence in modern polish spelling dates back to 1270.
  • Has 26 letters in the alphabet.
