  • Born November 27th, 1701
  • Born in Uppsala, Sweden
  • Died of Tuberculosis on April 25th, 1744
  • His main field of science was astronomy.

EARLY YEARS

  • He was a very talented mathematician at an early age.
  • He is the son of Nils Celsius, an astronomy professor.
  • Studied at Uppsala university like his father.

EDUCATION

  • Studied astronomy at Uppsala university.
  • Later became an astronomy professor at Uppsala University

SCIENCE CAREER

  • Studied auroral phenomena
  • Developed connections between the aurora borealis and changes in the magnetic field of the earth
  • Found a new way to calculate Earth's distance from the sun
  • Built the Uppsala Observatory
  • Invented the centigrade (Celsius) thermometer scale
