  • It was an old soldier drill ground that was converted to a track and field
  • The Campus was a large section of plain near the Tiber River.
  • Young men all over Rome gathered at the Campus to partake in such sports 
  • as jumping, wrestling, boxing, racing, and throwing.

Circus Maximus

  • A public entertainment center where chariot races were held.
  • A great reproduction of the Circus Maximus is in the film Ben Hur.
  • The Circus was specific to Rome, but it could hold 250,000 people.

Colosseum

Colosseum

  • The Colosseum was home to various gladiatorial battles, fights between men
  • The Romans loved blood, and to see others beat each otherto see others 
  • beat each other to death or be eaten by a savage beast was quite enjoyable.

Gladiators

Gladiators

  • They were slaves/warriors who were put into battle
  • against each other and animals for the entertainment
  • of spectators. They would fight to the death and whoever won
  • would verse harder opponents until they met there fate and died.
