A city-state is made up of a city and all the surrounding land.

GOLDEN AGE
The golden age is a periodina country's history marked by great acheivements

ATHENS
Athens was a greek city-state that was named after the greek goddess athena.

ATHENIANS
Athenians were citizens of Athens. They were known for their philosophy and art.

Sparta was a rival city-state of Athens. Sparta had one of the best militaries in greece.

Spartans were very war driven. They didn't focus on many other things and rarely bathed.

Hellenistic is to be greek-like and greek culture mixed with other cultures.

Greek lives varied from place to place. Here is the basic life of a Spartan soldier: train, don't bathe. ;)

Greece has many types of governments. The athenian government was a democracy. The spartan government was made up of kings and elders.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT became king of macedonia in 336B.C.e. He built an emipire that stretched 3000 miles.

PARTHENON
The parthenon is a temple built to the goddess athena.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE
Highest Class: aristocrats
Middle Class: small farmers
Lower Class: craftsmen
Lowest Class: slaves

GOD/GODDESS
Athena: athena was the goddess of wisdom and arts. Athens was named after her.
