E.g. Analyse how the writer's use of imagery emphasises her opposition to cutting down trees (2 marks)
She emphasises her oppostion to tree cutting by her use of the image 'butchers': just as a butcher carves an animal into pieces in a violent and crude way (1 mark), so municipal workers chop at trees in a similar crude manner (1 mark).
Analyse how the writer uses word choice to express disapproval of our era of political language.
The writer refers to the language used by politicians as 'gritty,' which suggests disapproval. 'Gritty' is a pejorative term meaning language which lacks sophistication or eloquence, or is harsh and coarse. By suggesting that our era of political language is unrefined, lacking in style and underdeveloped, the writer expresses his disapproval.
