preamble: The first part of the constitution, it describes the purpose of the document and the government it creates.

congress: To balance the powers of small and large states, the framers set up Congress as a bicameral, or two chamber, legislature.

federal judiciary: made up of the Supreme Court and many lower courts who interpret and apply laws in cases that come before them.

federalism: the division of power between the federal and state governments.

reserved powers: any power not expressly granted to the national government would remain with the states and the people

the 'supreme law of land': The Constitution is the supreme legal document of the United States. It consists of three parts: the Preamble, the Articles, and the amendments.

the legislative branch: The main function of this branch of government is to enact laws
