Early Amphibians
•Scientists believe they evolved from lungfish through metamorphosis.
•They could grow up to 10 meters long.
•They could stay on land longer than today's amphibians.

Thin Skin
•Most amphibians do not have scales
•They have thin moist skin that absorbs water to keep the creature hydrated
•If their skin is bright in color they are usually poisonous-warning coloration

Metamorphosis
•The process of becoming a full grown amphibian includes 4-5 stages
•Some amphibians skip the aquatic stage, others go through it

Kinds of Amphibians
•Caecilians are legless amphibians that live in damp soil.
•They look something like snakes.
•Salamanders are also a type of amphibian
•There are 390 known species.

Frogs and Toads
•90% of all amphibians are made up of frogs and toads.
•Frogs and toads have adapted to life on land
• Both have long sticky tongues to catch their meals
• Toads spend less time in the water than frogs

Singing Frogs
•Most of the frogs that sing are males
•Their songs have different meanings
•They have a vocal sacs that inflates air and makes "song"

The Darwin Frog
•The Darwin frogs live in Chile and Argentina
• They hold their baby eggs when they are developing in their mouth
•The adult spits them out and the frog is born into the world
