  • It was published on January 10, 1776
  • The writer of this pamphlet was Thomas Paine.
  • Important because Paine clarified why American should seek independence.

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

  • Published on July 4th, 1776.
  • Thomas Jefferson wrote it.
  • Signed by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Hancock, etc.
  • Important because it declared independence from Britain.

BATTLE OF LONG ISLAND

  • Date: August 27, 1776
  • The British won against the Americans.

BATTLE OF TRENTON

  • December 26, 1776.
  • The Americans won.
  • Leaders: George Washington & Johann Rall.
  • Important because it renewed hope for the Americans.

  • Date: January 3, 1777.
  • The Americans won.
  • Leaders: George Washington & Charles Cornwallis.
  • Important because it made the Americans believe they could still win the war.

  • The Americans won.

  • Date: September 19-October 7, 1777
  • Americans won.
  • It was the turning point of the war.
  • Leaders were Benedict Arnold and John Burgoyne.

BRANDYWINE & GERMANTOWN

  • September 11, 1777 for Brandywine.
  • October 4, 1777 for Germantown.
  • British won the battle of Brandywine.
  • British also won the battle of Germantown.

  • It was Important because it was the turning point of the success of the Continental Army.

  • Important because it made the Americans and the French alliances.
