BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL

  • Was the start of he Revolution
  • Proved to the colonists they could do it
  • The battle took place in June 1775
  • The British ended up taking over Bunker Hill after their third try

  • First Appeared in 1776
  • Written by Thomas Paine
  • Used to help motivate the colonists
  • It was important because this too boosted American spirit

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

  • Written on the 4 night of July 1776
  • Wasn't signed and published until two days after
  • Stated the colonists freedom of the British
  • Natural Rights, British Worngs, and Idenpendence were all chapters in the Declaration
  • Of Independence

BATTLE OF LONG ISLAND

  • 1,400 Americans were killed
  • The British goal was to capture Washington
  • We lost the battle and retreated to Manhattan
  • Washington didn't have a navy to help fight along side his militia
  • The battle took place in August of 1776

BATTLE OF TRENTON

  • Americans surprised Hessians early morning in Trenton, December 26, 1776
  • They attacked at 8 A.M. when the Hessians had 1,408 troops waiting
  • At 9 A.M. Hessians had 0 troops we had defeated all of the Hessians
  • Washington fooled General Cornwallis by leaving fires burning
  • the British attacked, not realizing that the colonists were the ones attacking

  • Battle was fought in August of 1777 as well
  • The Americans had a victory, but it was decisive

  • The siege happened in August of 1777
  • The result in the battle was the Americans taking a victory

  • Two major battles of the American revolution fought in Pennsylvania
  • Fought in September of 1777
  • After many mishaps by the colonists Washington's army finally retreated

BATTLE OF SARATOGA

  • Saratoga was a major turning point in the war
  • It ended the threat of British to New England
  • American spirits were boosted after this war
  • Convinced France to become allies with the colonists
  • Battle was in October of 1777

FRANCE BECOMES AN ALLY

  • The French were eager to defeat the British at once
  • In February 1778 was when the colonists became allies
  • French was the country who basically won the war for the colonists
  • The French shipped a fleet of soldiers to America to stop Cornwallis
  • Before the French joined us we still received soldiers from all over Europe to help

WINTER AT VALLEY FORGE

  • The years of 1777-1778 was when this event took place
  • It was a makeshift camp were the colonists stayed
  • It was a harsh winter for the colonists struggling of frost bite a scarcity of food
  • Many colonists had to sleep on the frigid ground

BATTLE OF VINCENNES

  • Took place in the year of 1779 in February
  • The Americans added another victory to their list after Vincennes

BATTLE OF KING'S MOUNTAIN

  • A battle between the Patriots and the loyalists
  • Took place in October of 1780
  • Patriots won the battle and raised Patriot morale

BENEDICT ARNOLD BETRAYS AMERICA

  • Arnold turned to a traitor in September of 1781
  • This made the Americans even more determined to defeat the British
  • This turned the Americans into a rage to fight and win the battle for their freedom

BATTLE OF COWPENS

  • General Morgan led the colonists in this battle
  • In January of 1781 Morgan won the colonists the battle
  • He told the colonists to fire fire two volleys of shots and then retreat
  • Leaving the British to think they were retreating only to be attacked by the second
  • line

BATRLE OF GUILFORD COURTHOUSE

  • Battle fought in March of 1781
  • British won the battle

BATTLE OF YORKTOWN

  • General Washington led the colonists into the victory of our revolution
  • Cornwallis surrendered when he was surrounded by the Americans on land and the French
  • by sea. On October 19, 1781 British surrendered their weapons and we won the Revolution making us free
  • We already had the Declaration of Independence ready for this moment

TREAY OF PARIS

  • Congress approved of the treaty on April 15, 1783
  • The treaty stated that the colonists had borders of their new founded country
  • The border stopped colonists from going into Florida "Spain's Territory"
