  • Jefferson is asked to write a draft for the Declaration of Independence
  • Not only does it include rights to Americans, but for every man.
  • Natural rights are stated. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."

DECLARATION IS SIGNED {JULY 4, 1776}

  • 12/13 colonies agree with the Declaration
  • Congress adopts it, signs it, and sends it to the printers.
  • America declares itself Independence from Britain.
