FACTS

  • This house style was popular in the mid 1890's and late 1830's
  • Plain and often incorporating handcrafted woodwork.
  • Hallmarks of the style includes a square, boxy design, two and half stories high, usually with four large boxy rooms to a floor.
  • A center dormer and a large front porch with wide stairs.
  • Incorporates elements of the Prairie School and the Craftsmen style.

MORE FACTS

  • A typical design is living room and dining room on one side, and an entry room or foyer and kitchen on the other.
  • Second floor includes a bedroom, bathroom, bedroom on one side, bedroom, stairway and bedroom on the other.
  • The rooms are slightly longer dimensions along the front and back of the house with side by side closets between the bedrooms.
  • Also can be called an Transitional Period
  • May be built with variety of materials, including bricks and wood frames.
