  • The congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag in the United States

FLAG PROTECTION ACT

  • Whoever knowingly physically defiles the flag shall be fined under this title or imprisoned
  • This rule does not pertain to any flag that has become worn down or soiled

SUPPORTED BY

  • The conservatives
  • The flag of the U.S. Is a national freedom
  • Should be prohibited because of its unpatriotic nature
  • Burning the flag shows flagrant disrespect for the country

NOT SUPPORTED BY

  • Liberals and several veterans
  • The amendment would restrict people's freedom
  • Flag burnings are rare
  • Put the country at par with the totalitarian regimes of other countries
  • The wording of amendment is loose

OUR OPINION

  • Disrespectful to our country to burn or tear the flag purposefully
  • Disrespectful to the actual people who have defended our country
