Vocabulary

  • Algebraic Expression- a math sentence with no equal sign made up of at least one variable, #, or combination of both
  • Example: 3x + 7
  • Non-Example: 3x + 7 = 10

Vocabulary

  • Term: a piece of an algebraic expression/equation.
  • Example: 3x + 7 has 2 terms
  • How many terms does ....
  • 3c - 5d -15
  • 3 - 8b + 7 +3b

Vocabulary

  • Coefficient: the number in front of a variable (product)
  • Example: 3x - 5; the coefficient is 3
  • What are the coefficients...
  • -5x + 7 2c + 9d - 3 - t

Vocabulary

  • Constant: a plain number (nothing attached)
  • Example: 3x - 5; the constant is -5
  • What are the constants...
  • -5x + 7 2c + 9d - 3 - t

Vocabulary

  • Like Terms: have the same value (variable to the same power, or constant)
  • Like Terms can be combined by adding their coefficients.
  • Examples...
  • -5x + 2x c -5c - 3c -2d + d
