  • Known for being an inventor
  • Invented the first telephone

EARLY LIFE

  • His mother was Elisa Symonds
  • His father was Alexander Bell
  • Had two brothers
  • Melville and Edward
  • Both died of tuberculosis

CAREER

  • Taught Visible Speech in London
  • Moved to Boston and joined the Boston School for the deaf
  • Became a professor of vocal physiology and speech at Boston University
  • In 1873 Alexander began experimenting with different technology
  • Mostly on the harmonic telegraph

  • Met Thomas A. Watson
  • Young mechanist and technician
  • Brought all the things Bell needed for his experiment
  • Then became Bell's assistant
  • Took 6 years to perfect the telephone

TELEPHONE

  • After experimenting the whole summer
  • Bell wrote a patent specification during the fall
  • Filed it on February 14,1876
  • Just a few hours Elisha Gray went to the patent office
  • Went to patent his own telephone design

  • Bell's patent was granted
  • March 7,1876
  • First message transmitted was on March 10th
  • "Mr.Watson,come here, I want you!"
  • 3 months later his invention was popular

BELL COMPANY

  • After a year of refining the telephone
  • He found the Bell Telephone Company
  • On July 9,1877
  • Later on that year the first telephone was installed a private home
  • Introduced the telephone to England and France
