MY ALGEBRA ASSIGNMENT

  • The problem
  • Assignment of veriables
  • Making a formula
  • Subbing the values
  • Solve!

THE PROBLEM

  • A doctor need to run tests on eye colours, he chooses to use the colour categories of blue, brown and other.

He runs the test on a class of 30 students. He finds that 14 people have blue eyes, half of this amount have eyes that fall in the ‘other’
How many people have brown eyes?

ASSIGNMENT OF VARIABLES

  • Amount of people with other coloured eyes = O
  • Amount of people with brown eyes = BR
  • Amount of people with blue eyes = BL

MAKING A FORMULA

  • For our formulas we know we have 14 people with blue eyes so.
  • 14+O+BR=30

SUBBING IN THE VALUES

  • We know that O= half of fourteen so it must be 7
  • we now know that whatever is left is equal to BR.

SOLVE!

  • 14+O=21
  • 30-21=9
  • The answer is 9!
