Bears are mammals. They are like humans because they breathe with lungs, and they are warm blooded.

Bears first appeared 40 million years ago. They were small meat eating, tree climbing animals. Bears are related to coyotes, wolfs, foxes, raccoons, and dogs.

Alaskan brown bears are the biggest bears in the North America. The average adult is 7 to 10 feet tall. Brown bears can weigh up to 500 to 900 pounds.

Alaskan brown bears are found in Alaska. They live in the costal areas and Kodiak island. There are, but the guess is about 30,000 to 40,000 bears.
