PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Wright Brothers were two inventors and aviation pioneers. They are credited with inventing and building the world's first successful airplane on December 17, 1903.
The brothers' breakthrough was their invention of three-axis control, which enabled the pilot to steer the plane and to maintain balance. They gained these skills to make this from working in their bicycle shop.
In 1903 the brothers built the powered Wright Flyer I, using spruce. They also designed and carved their own wooden propellers, and built a gasoline engine in their bicycle shop.
They thought the propeller design would be a simple project and just change ship propellers a little. However they found many bombs in the road before they found the right fit.
Their finish product had chains that looked like bicycle wheels, the wings spread a little over 40 feet long, weighed 605 pounds, and had a 12 horsepower engine .The whole project only cost the brothers 1000 dollars.
The Wrights finally took to the to the air on December 17, 1903, making two flights each from level ground into a cold headwind. The two flights covered about175 and 200 feet, and they only flew about 10 feet above the ground.
