PRESENTATION OUTLINE
5 PRIMARY AIR POLLUTANTS
- Carbon monoxide
- Nitrogen oxides
- Sulfur dioxide
- Volatile organs
- Particular matter
Nitrogen oxides
NO comes from burning fuel in vehicle, power plants, and industrial boilers.
Sulfur dioxide
SD comes mostly from burning fuels
Carbon monoxide
Sources of CO are trucks, buses, small engines and some industrial process.
Volatile organs
VOCs comes from burning fuels.Vehicles are the major source of VOCs.
Particular matter
Most particulates come from construction, agriculture, forestry and fires.Vehicles and industrial process also contribute particulates.
THE TWO MAJOR SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION IN URBAN AREAS
Smog was first described in the 1950s. It is the chemical reaction of sunlight, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds in the atmosphere, which leaves airborne particles and ground-level ozone.
Temperature inversion layers, also called thermal inversions or just inversion layers, are areas where the normal decrease in air temperature with increasing altitude is reversed and air above the ground is warmer than the air below it.
