HISORY

  • First recorded on june 5th 1981.
  • By the time the article was published two of the men had already died.
  • It began in 5 young and healthy men.
  • by the end of 1981 there were more than 270 reported cases.

SPREAD

  • Aids is spread through sexual contact.
  • It is also spread through child birth.
  • It can be spread through injections.
  • lastly it can be spread through organ transplant.

ORPHANS

  • In south africa there are 2.5 million cases of parent loss.
  • Most children orphaned by aids outside of africa live in asia.
  • This causes many negative changes in the lives of these children.
  • There have been 2.2 million orphaned children in nigeria.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • Aids reduced the amount of human capital.
  • Leads to a smaller skilled labor force.
  • Some people have to leave jobs to look after sick family.
  • Lowered the GDP of most african countries.

ANTIRETROVIRALS

  • The medication available doesn't cure aids.
  • The people still have the virus in them.
  • The drugs also dont stop it from being contagious.
  • Some drugs are available that only treat the side affects.
