• Jeff- Started 8th grade, always works hard, and has had Leukemia.
• Steven- Jeff's older brother, currently took a trip to Africa.
• Lindsey- One of Jeff's best friends, loves baseball, moved from California.
• Tad- Real name is Thaddeus but prefers Tad, Jeff's other best friend.

SETTINGS

External conflict- The external conflict is when Jeff told his mom he was going to go to Tad's house to study when he actually went to Lindsey's.

Plot- Jeff just started 8th grade and he has trouble getting through school. He doesn't get the best grades and he doesn't understand math. Tad tutors him because he has a math test coming up. He needs to pass the test in order to pass 8th grade. With his friends around him as a distraction it's harder for him to focus on passing.

Mood: The mood is often happy and you always want to know what happens next. One part is sad throughout the book but I don't want to give it away!
