  • Segregation
  • Separate facilities for whites and blacks
  • Facilities were inferior compared to the ones used for whites
  • Suffered from discrimination in opportunities such as jobs

THE FALL OF SEGREGATION

  • Brown v. Board of Education
  • In 1954 the court struck down segregation in schools and other facilities
  • Many city and state officials ignored this decision and refused to integrate their schools

THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH

  • The role of the church began to change
  • Black ministers and preachers became the leaders against the discrimination
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Helped to lead the movement for racial equality
