was king of England from 978 to 1016 AD

He paid a lot of money to the Vikings, the Danes,

to keep them away from England

When Edward died

in January 1066...

defeated a Danish invasion at Stamford Bridge in northern England

...but on 28th September

Harolds rushed to battle...

...but on 14th October 1066 at Hastings

he got an arrow in his eye...

the last Saxon king of England

...and so died
