Adam was a French-born poet and musician, whose literary and musical works include chansons and jeux-partis (poetic debates)

• The esteem in which de la Halle was held in his time is evidenced by the fact that his were the first musical works to be collected and edited.

It is surprising that this volume contains not only his chansons and song plays, but also rondeaux and motets for three voices.

Polyphony is a texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melody, as opposed to a musical texture with just one voice

In difference from musical texture with one dominant melodic voice accompanied by chords which is called homophony.
