- When Lily picked on her about her doll.
- Cousin Silas told the school that to be careful because he said she was part savage.
- Lily told Adaline to ask God to forgive her for being part Indian,so she could be like them.

PLOT
EXPOSITION
- Her father goes on an expedition and leaves her with her cousins.
- Her mom dies and Adeline tries to commit suicide.
- Adaline works at the schoolhouse that her cousins attend.
RISING ACTION
- Adaline learns that the doll her dad gave is a connection to her mom.
- Lily tells Adaline to ask God to forgive her for being half Indian.
- Caddie gives Adaline the dress that she made for her little girl.

FALLING ACTION
- After they burn her doll Adaline starts to cut herself with a knife.
- Adaline leaves to find her dad ,and meets a dog along the way.
- Adaline goes back for after she leaves to get on a steamboat.
- Adaline jumps off the boat and is able to get to the puppy before the boat exploded.
- After she jumps and gets to shore she dreams about riding to the land-behind-the-stars.

RESOLUTION
- Adaline is found by her dad after she jumps from the boat.
- Her dad bought them a ranch in NewMexico.
