WHY DO PEOPLE FOCUS ON THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE, RATHER THAN THE BEAUTY WITHIN?

beauty is only skin deep, apperance is deceptive, all that glitters is not gold, and never judge a book by its cover

By this Anthony Synnott is saying that the outward apperance means nothing because it is only skin deep. Someone may be beautiful or handsome on the outside but who they are for a person can be deceiving because you are only focused on the outward apperance.

Also in the article it says to be attractive is by definition to attract. To be lovely is to be love able no by implication to be loved. Conversely, to be unlovely is to be unlovable and to be ugly is to be repulsive and repel.

This is powerful for it has a strong meaning on how the physical appearance works in the eyes of others. How being beautiful can attract other people; however, on the other hand not having the best apperance can repel others.

in the novel confessions of an ugly stepsister, the author Gregory Maguire focuses primarily on the theme of beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

the essential question reflects this novel between the charecters of Iris and Clara

brief description is Clara is the most beautiful girl in the world, she can get any man she desires because of her physical apperance; however, iris on the other hand struggles. she is seen as unsightly. iris had much to offer, she was inteligent hard working and loved art, but no one realized that because everyone was so captivated by Claras physical beauty.

1 SAMUEL 16:7

But The Lord said to samuel, do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but The Lord looks at the heart.
