What is an acid , base, & neutral?

  • An acid is anything that has pH of 0-7 & has a lot of hydrogen ions.
  • A base is anything that has a pH of 7-14 & has a lot of hydroxide ions.
  • A neutral is something that has a pH of 7.

WHAT DO SCIENTIST MEASURE WITH PH?

SCIENTIST MEASURE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WATER TO FIND THE PH OF SOMETHING.
Scientist measure things such as, water from the stream, water from the ground, clouds, and tap water.

The normal pH level of rain water, streams/lakes, & soil

  • Tap water: 7.0, means that its neutral.
  • Stream water: 5.2, means that its acidic.
  • Soil: soil varies.

How can air pollution affect water and soil?
Air pollution is harmful and can get into the stream water and soil and can contaminate it.

Are there negative consequences to changing the pH of something on the environment?

The consequences after things such as fossil fuel, pollution and volcanoes all have negative consequences that come after the change and can affect our surroundings. Also, acid rain can be the effect of this and that can be extremely damaging.

THERE ARE THINGS THAT WE CAN DO TO REDUCE THE CHANGES OF PH IN WATER, & SOIL!

  • We can turn off any electric things.
  • We can buy less things that include electric.
  • We can limit air conditioning.
  • Lastly, we can adjust the thermostat.

By doing those things, we can stop acid rain and if we stopped acid rain, less pH changes will happen in a negative way.
