Dignity and Respect

When we are talking about students with disabilities, it is important to remember to use language that treats the individual with dignity and respect.

Discussion: Should all students be assessed?

Are there some students who are too disabled to be assessed?

Good teaching...

  • differentiation

Special Populations

  • Students with 504 Plans
  • Students with Individual Education Programs

504 Plans

  • Have a handicapping condition
  • Require access, supports, or accommodations

Your role in IEP meeting

  • Regular education teachers are required members of the team
  • Participation for the purpose of determining appropriate positive behavior interventions and supports and strategies, supplementary aids and services, program modifications, and support for school personnel

Assessments for Students with Disabilities

  • appropriate accommodations for all assessments
  • fair and accurate way to assess student knowledge and skills
