AC Troubleshooting

Before you call a professional
Things can heat up quickly when the air conditioner isn’t working properly in your Tampa, Florida home. If you aren’t getting the results you want from your system, try these quick air conditioner troubleshooting tasks to see if you can identify the problem.

1. Check your Thermostat

  • Double check the temperature setting as well as the indoor temperature reading.
  • If the thermostat is set correctly, the inside temperature is higher than the setting on the thermostat, and the system still isn’t running, you may need to seek professional air conditioner services to resolve the problem.

2. Check the Power

  • Check for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

3. Change the Filter

  • A dirty filter will reduce your energy efficiency and limit cooling capacity. It’s far more difficult for a system to pull air through a clogged filter than through a clean one. You should be changing your air conditioner’s filter once every one to three months.

4. Look at your Condenser

  • The condenser for your air conditioner sits outside the home, so it’s easy to forget about this part of the system. Looking over the condenser is an important part of air conditioner troubleshooting.

4. Look at your Condenser

  • Check to make sure this box isn’t surrounded by tall grass, leaves, or other types of debris. If it’s not getting adequate air flow, you won’t get the performance that you’re after. Clear the area around your condenser for two to three feet in all directions for optimum performance.
