What is the open ocean?

The open ocean is nothing like land. On land things stay still for a long time. In the open ocean, everything is always moving and changing. It is an environment full of excitement.

  • Killer Whales
  • Krill
  • Dolphins
  • Zooplankton



Sea turtles are one of the world's oldest creatures. They cannot pull their arms and legs in like other turtles.

Killer whales are orcas and can travel up to 30 miles per hour.

Krill are invertebrates that move in big swarms all over this biome.

Dolphins are a kind of whale with gregarious teeth. They are well known to be sociable.

Plankton is a group of small or immature animals.

Water is an abiotic factor that all living things depend on. It carries along nutrients to marine life.

Density is the degree of the compactness of a substance .

Nutrients are a substance needed to support life.

Temperature is a degree or intensity of heat in a substance or object usually measured with a thermometer or felt by touch.

Light is a natural source of energy that also stimulates sight and makes things visible.

FUN FACTS:

The highest tide in the world reached is 46 feet high

Most oceanographers say that the ocean floor is about 10 times younger than the continents

95% OF THE OCEANS HAVE STILL NOT BEEN EXPLORED.
