Abigail Adams had no occupation before marriage, although after she married John Adams, she almost immediately became a mother. She also shared management of household finances and farming of their property with her husband who was away practicing law.

Abigail's life was remarkable because of how supportive she was of her husband while his election was going on, yet she still dealed with problems of her own like women's rights. While he was gone to all these other places she kept him in touch and helped him with anything she could through letters. As the First Lady, she worked just as much as John if not more.

One of the lessons I learned from Abigail Adams is to be independent and be strong for yourself. I also learned you should always strive for great things because you never know what might happen.

Some of Abigail's letters later became published by her grandson.
She had a light infantry volunteer regiment named "Lady Adams Rangers".
Abigail was the first, First Lady to live in the White House.
