Poggio gramignano

  • A doll that was from both the ancient Roman and Greek civilizations 
  • Style wise, it was more Roman
  • It was made from a bone of an unknown animal
  • They had a simple design to them
  • Dolls had hair that was styled after Julia Domna (Empress from 193-211 AD)

uRBan dolls

  • Dolls were more common in urban areas 
  • Dolls were frequently made out of wood or ivory
  • Facial expressions were often solemn due to a difficult medium
  • To make up for the lame facial expressions they had jewelry

Urban dolls 2.0

  • Ivory toys wouldve been expensive for lower class
  • Rag, straw, and terracotta dolls were the more affordable option
  • Despite the medium, all dolls had tunics and little pieices of jewelry

tHE RAG DOLL

  • Rag doll filling was made papyrus and rag
  • The exterior was linen
  • Whether or not they had hair, is unknown
