PRESENTATION OUTLINE
It's no secret that theater has been part of my life ever since I was four years old.
But now that i've been striving to be Holy, i've realized that there are a lot of moments in theater that relates to the scriptures.
Remember in the Musical "Beauty and the Beast" an old beggar woman asked the prince for help, but he rejected her, and as a result of that the old beggar turned into a beautiful woman and turned the prince into a beast.
Remember in the Musical "Cinderella" an old beggar woman known as Crazy Marie needed help and Ella was kind enough to help her...
but later on the old beggar wonan turned into a fairy godmother, and helped Ella get to the ball-- twice!
If i'm correct, there's a scripture that says "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of my bretheren, ye have done it unto me."
Remember in the Musical "The Lion King" when Scar Killed his brother Mufasa so he could be king...
but if i'm correct in the end, Scar got killed, and Simba took over Pride Rock
If i'm correct, there's a scripture that talks about how you'll reap what you sow
You know how in shows like Mary Poppins, the actor or actress does not fly or leave the ground unless someone or something is pulling the strings,
If i'm correct when it comes to Holiness, God is in charge. A person can not be in the spirit unless God puts them in the spirit. A person can not move unless God makes them move. In fact if i'm correct, Pastor Jennings once said in a telecast how he is like a puppet, and God is the puppet master.
You know how in the Musical "The Wizard of Oz", it talks about the fundamentals of Dorothy in Oz...
and you know how in the Musical "Wicked", it goes into more detail about what life was like before Dorothy fell into Oz?
If i'm correct, "The book of Genesis talks about the fundamentals, while in "The book of Jasher talks more in detail about events in the scriptures.
So I would like to thank God for blessing me with an interest in theater and journalism, because I could have a likeness for so many other things that are againt God like smoking, drinking, partying, doing drugs, gambling, and so many other dangerous things, but God has blessed me by having mercy on me, and giving me an interest for something that is not really a sin. It's just what you do and what you watch that makes it a sin...
and I would also like to thank God for all the blessings that he gave me for theater and journalism.
I thank God for blessing me with an internship at the Walnut Street Theater's "Seeing the Stage Through our Eyes" program.
God blessed me by giving me journalism experience by letting me see four Broadway productions for free, and letting me write feature articles for all of them...
and God also blessed me by having one of my feature articles chosen to be published in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
I would also like to thank God for blessing me with more journalism experience by giving me an internship at the KYW Newsradio Newstudies program.
By the help of God I was able to increase my intervieweing skills, writing skills, communication skills, and by the help of God I was able to read my news peice on the radio and had it broadcasted on December 1st 2014.
But it's not just journalism and theater that I thank God for...
I would also like to thank God for blessing me with a wonderful, wise, kind-hearted woman like you as my mother.
If God had not made a way for you to be introduced to Formative Years Preschool...
My interest for theater may not have started.
Your kindness and support have played a great part in my life, and I appreciate all the things that you have done for me.
I appreciate you being there for some of my high school plays,
I appreciate you taking the time to take me to see my first musical experience back in 2013,
and if it's in God's will, (because God is first in all things.) I would like to see a Broadway show at least once in a blue moon. Since my spiritual walk with God began, I have seen some growth within me. I'm striving to be more honest about things that I would have normally lied about, I do see myself watching the news more often, and even recording the news now, whereas if I were still a sinner, I would not be watching the news as much, and as far as theater goes: I know that if I was still a sinner, I would be asking you to take me to see a show every year, and I would have normally watched shows that would have fitted my taste, but now that i've been striving to walk with God, i'm fine now with seeing a Broadway musical or play at least once in a blue moon, and this time i'm more careful now with what shows are appropriate to watch. If it's in God's will for me to see a show two things need to happen:
The show can not contradict the scriptures, and we can NEVER watch it on the same day that church service is going on. As much as I like theater...
My love and desire for God is more superior than my interest for theater, journalism, and anything else.
For example, there are some shows that could be innocent, but because you know and understand the scriptures better than me, if you find the time you can look them up and judge them from God's point of view. Here's some examples:
If it be in God's will that I pass Math 118 and English 101, while i'm on break if it's in God's will I would like to do internships over the summer for journalism.
Whether it's newspaper journalism,
So again, I would like to thank God for giving me an interest for theaer,
and I would like to thank God for giving me an interest in journalism,
and I would like to thank God for blessing me with a wonderful mom like you.
Happy Mother's Day!
your loving daughter Melissa
