  • Rex is telling the story about how Jackson is the most important person in his life.

HOW DOES THE CONFLICTS MAKE JACK HEROIC?

  • Being African American and people not liking him because of it.
  • He wasn't going to let anybody push him around or tell him what to do because of it.
  • "Pick that up boy," said Marv. Rex went to pick it up, when Marv said "not you, the nigra."
  • Jack did not move. That made Marv redder, So Jack just decided to leave instead of getting in a fight.
