HOW DOES THE CONFLICT MAKE REX HEROIC?
Even though Rex does not like Jack at first he was still nice to him.
Jack needed supplies and Rex got them for him, even though there was a chance he would get in trouble.
"Do you need tools?" "Yeah could use some, Rex."

HOW DOES THE CONFLICTS MAKE JACK HEROIC?
Being African American and people not liking him because of it.
He wasn't going to let anybody push him around or tell him what to do because of it.
"Pick that up boy," said Marv. Rex went to pick it up, when Marv said "not you, the nigra."
Jack did not move. That made Marv redder, So Jack just decided to leave instead of getting in a fight.
