Bullying

  • Bullying is aggressive, unwanted behavior that is repeated over time
  • Causes 160,000 teens to stay home from school each day
  • 4,400 teens commit suicide each year because of bullying

Mackenzie Murphy

  • 16 years old
  • Winner of "Me To We" award in Canada
  • Victim of cyber and regular bullying
  • Tried to commit suicide when she was 12 years old

What she did

  • Wanted to prove to the bullies that they didn't define her
  • Pushed an anti- bullying law in Canada for nine months until it was approved
  • Law shows that if there is an offense the offender will be fined

Marcel Neegaard

  • 11 years old
  • Victim of physical Bullying
  • Was taken out of school in the fifth grade because of being bullied
  • Gained strength when being home schooled and started standing up for kids like him

What he did

  • Made a petition to take the "Reformer of the Year" award from the state representative John Ragan
  • Ragan's "Don't Say Gay" bill forbidden teachers and principals to talk about being gay
  • He felt it made open students like himself feel unsafe in school

  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Stick up for people that can't stick up for themselves
  • Sit with the left out kids at lunch
