Important Businesses and Industries
Vintage ads, fast food, and the car industry was definitely a big part of it because there were 60 million cars in the United States. The 50's was the decade that started consumerism, we started to use and throw away. Advertising brought in lots of businesses.

Coonskin caps, car hops, 3D movies, ant farms, bubble gum cigars, DA haircuts, side burns, and fedoras.

Leather Jackets, fedoras, suspenders, lettermens, slim fitting suits, skinny ties, bowling shirts, saddle shoes and chunky glasses.

Popular Sports Figures
Jackie Robinson- first african- American to play Major League Baseball.

Wars
Korean War (1950-1953) 3 years and two days long, it was between North and South Korea, The fighting ended on 27 July 1953, when the armistice was signed. The agreement created the Korean Demilitarized Zone to separate North and South Korea, and allowed the return of prisoners. Clashes have continued to the present.

Cold War (1947-1991)
The Soviets + the warsaw pact vs. the U.S. + NATO allies it ended when Mikhail Gorbachev took the reins of The Soviet Union and brought a revolution no one predicted.

Vietnam (1959-1975)
The Vietnamese and the U.S fought for 16 years until it ended when the Saigon fell to the communists. No one won.

Central Theme
It was a time that paved the path to ours, we started consumerism, kids got real toys that we still have today and fast food and car hops were started, all things that seem to resemble life today.
