Not everyone is a Twitter professional. So, I’ve devised a list for new Twitter users on what NOT to do.

5 WAYS TO RUIN TWITTER FOR EVERYONE

  • USING A USER VALIDATION SERVICE.
  • ADDING AN AUTO DIRECT MESSAGE.
  • OVER USING HASHTAGS.
  • ONLY TWEETING DURING OFFICE HOURS.
  • NOT RESPONDING TO MENTIONS.

USING A USER VALIDATION SERVICE.

  • Does anyone actually care enough to validate their tweets?
  • Taking the time to enter captcha on Twitter so you can validate your follow is useless.
  • If someone requests you validate your follow, UNFOLLOW them!

ADDING AN AUTO DIRECT MESSAGE.

  • Don’t send auto direct messages.
  • It will turn off your customers!
  • AUTO sending DM's will cause you to look like a bot on social media.
  • Good luck getting a response after sending an AUTO DM.

OVER USING HASHTAGS.

# # # # # # # # # # # #

A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic.

Using hashtags are definitely important. You should be using them! Tweets with hashtags get two times more engagement than tweets without.

Overusing hashtags can cause your message to get lost in all of the search terms.

When you use more than two hashtags, your engagement actually drops by an average of 17%.

DON'T OVER USE HASHTAGs

ONLY TWEETING DURING OFFICE HOURS

  • People don't care if you aren't online!
  • Don't wait before responding.
  • Social media never stops and you shouldn’t have your posts stop either.
  • Find a publishing platform to help you.
  • Try Edgar, SproutSocial or Buffer.

I hope that this will help you to manage your Twitter without ruining it for the rest of us. If you have any questions send me a Tweet @erockfoutch.
