PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ANTI-FOG SOLUTION

  • Other names are endo-fog, fred, dr.fog
  • Used to prevent fogging on lens during endoscopic procedure.

INSUFFLATION TUBING

  • This tubing is also called fred
  • Delivers carbon dioxide from the insufflator to the abdominal cavity
  • It has a micro filter to prevent cross contamination
  • Air should be purged from tubing before it is connected to the abdominal cavity.

FIBEROPTIC LIGHT CORD

  • Also known as light cord
  • This is used for illumination during endoscopic procedures
  • When using this do not let it drop, twist or get placed under heavy objects.
  • It can be easily damaged

VERRES NEEDLE

  • Also known as insufflation needle
  • This is used to deliver carbon dioxide through the peritoneum into the abdominal cavity.
  • It will create a pneumoperitoneum

TROCARS AND PORTS

  • There are many different types of these. It depends on the procedure they are doing on which they use.
  • These are used to create an instrument port in which the endoscope and instruments can be introduced.

ENDOSCOPIC CAMERA

  • These are used to transmit images from the endoscope to the video monitor.
  • Most camera failures result from damaged cords. When using these we need to be very careful.
  • Keep the distal end covered until its ready to be plugged into the unit.

ENDOSCOPES

  • There are several different sizes and kinds of these also.
  • Also known as lens, and rigid endoscope
  • These are used for visualization of body cavities, internal organs, and structures through an orifice or surgical opening.

BLUNT DISSECTOR

  • Also known as bullet or blackie
  • These are used for blunt dissection and separation of tissue planes.
  • As a general rule, dissectors do not have ratchet handles, but graspers do.
  • The cable connects at the gold part and the current is activated with a foot pedal.

ENDOSCOPIC RIGHT ANGLE FORCEPS

  • Also known as a mixter
  • These are used for separating tissue planes and dissecting around tubular structures.
  • The cable connects at the gold part and the current is activated with a foot pedal.

MARYLAND DISSECTOR

  • There is no other name for these.
  • These are used for fine dissection and separation of thin adventitial tissue.

ENDOSCOPIC ALLIS FORCEPS

  • These have a slight hook on the end to lift, hold and retract slippery dense tissue.

ENDOSCOPIC BABCOCK FORCEPS

  • This does not have another name.
  • These Are used for grasping and encircling delicate structures such as the ureters, Fallopian tubes, ovaries, appendix or bowel.
  • These come in both 5-mm and 10-mm sizes and are non disposable or disposable.

SUCTION IRRIGATOR

  • These have no other name.
  • These are used to irrigate and aspirate fluid and debris from the surgical site.
  • There are many types and manufacturers such as gravity, pump, or battery operated.
