Hadrian ruled the Roman Empire from 117-138 AD. He inherited the empire from Trajan, the second good emperor. Before being adopted be Trajan, Hadrian was a soldier and had moved to Rome at age 14. Once officially Emperor of Rome, Hadrian spent over half of his years traveling the empire, overseeing work and being with his people.
One of the most important structures of hadrians time was hadrians wall. This was a 73 mile long white stained wall. It showed to all people the power of Rome and its people.
Hadrian had an affair with his young prodigue. The boys name was antinous, a young exotic boy Hadrian had found on his travels through the country. Once he saw him he was instantly in love. Antinous is now known as ''the beautiful boy'' who was swept away by the gods for his attractiveness. The truth is he drowned in a river which emotionally destroyed Hadrian. He then names the river antinopis in honor of the boy.
Hadrians died at the age of 62. He felt his health was failing so lived his final
Years in Rome and stopped traveling. He wrote poetry and handled simple work. Hadrian had his last breath in 138Ad most likely to a heart attack. He named his successor Antoninus pius and assuming that Antoninus would adopt Marcus aurelius (which he did). He was originally buried on the ground where a college was once kept in honor of his love of learning, but once Pius became emperor he made a magnificent tomb and cremated him with his wife.
