THE 34 THEMES

For your reference, here is a brief description of all 34 themes along with fun pictures.

ACHIEVER

Achiever is currently the most common of the 34 themes. Achievers feel that they need to achieve things every day in order to feel good about themselves, hence they likely use to do lists even for vacations or things outside of work. You can likely work long hours without getting burned out but need to remember to celebrate your accomplishments.

Things to remember when working with achiever: ensure to communicate the goals you want to achieve, sometimes providing incentives for hard work can be motivating, and achievers thrive on roles that challenge them.

ACTIVATOR

Activators move quickly, think quickly, and once a decision has been made you want to immediately act upon it. You can sometimes be seen as not thinking things through, but for an activator you think and learn along the way, evaluating each action they take and the results. Activators can be great entrepreneurs.

Things to remember when working with activator: activators are self-starters and move very quickly so you may face a challenge when you have activators and deliberators in the same group. Activators are also great at starting projects, not always at finishing them so pair them with other themes like discipline or focus to get things completed.

ADAPTABILITY

Adaptability is about living in the moment. You have an understanding of how your actions now will impact your future and discover your future in each of the choices you make. You expect and may even look forward to detours or last minute changes. Even when pulled in many different directions you can remain productive.

Things to remember when working with adaptability: they are great at handling day of concerns and troubleshooting in the moment. They may not enjoy a lot of forward planning and may instead like to focus on what to tackle in each moment. Adaptability is a great asset to have in your team when you face the inevitable challenges of event planning.

ANALYTICAL

Analytical individuals are extremely inquisitive, wanting to know the why behind everything (like a true detective). You are very talented at analyzing data and evaluating theories or plans to detect any holes or problems. Some may perceive you as being logical and objective, others as dispassionate yet rigorous. You can be trusted to help vet ideas and concepts. Just remember to avoid being harsh when providing feedback.

Things to remember when working with analytical: it is important to understand the motivations behind why they might ask you so many questions. The goal is to truly understand the concept and prove that it will be effective. Create spaces or time to be able to allow for constructive feedback.

ARRANGER

Arrangers help to put the pieces of the puzzle together in the most effective configuration. You strive to get the perfect configuration and will routinely revisit things if you think you can make them better. You are flexible in the moment and work best in dynamic situations where changes can be made. Arrangers can also keep a large amount of data or information in their mind in thinking through new possibilities or arrangements.

Things to remember when working with arranger: make sure to allow for flexibility and change in team dynamics and be open to their feedback. They want to solve the problem the best way possible and may envision individuals taking on different roles.

BELIEF

Individuals with belief have core values that are very important to them; these beliefs are not necessarily spiritual and depend on each individual. You tend to value responsibility and high ethics in yourself and in others. Your core values and beliefs help guide you and give your life meaning. Many might see you as dependable and trustworthy. It is very important to you that your work is in line with and complementary to your values.

Things to remember when working with belief: understand that work-life balance may be very important to them. In addition, you want to get to know their core values and demonstrate if you share those values.

COMMAND

Individuals with command enjoy taking charge and have a strong presence. You are comfortable with sharing your viewpoint with others and enjoy convincing others to agree with you. You likely don't shy away from confrontation and value people who are clear and honest. Some may see you as intimidating or opinionated but you can help push others to take risks. People may be very drawn to you.

Things to remember when working with command: make sure that they have the opportunity for a leadership position or ownership over something. Pay attention to how many commands there are in a group as they may prefer to be the sole leader.

COMMUNICATION

Individuals with high communication like to explain, host, speak in public, or write; they want to convey information to others in exciting ways to make sure they remember. You likely will turn events into stories and may enjoy telling lots of stories to people. Your words can inspire others to act.

Things to remember when working with communication: know that they are typically great at being the spokespeople and ensure they have the opportunity to be involved in the communication process (writing, speaking, teaching, etc.). Also know they may enjoy talking a lot--meetings with lots of people high in communication can take a long time.

COMPETITION

Competition is all about comparison. You utilize other people's performance as a yardstick. You need other people, particularly other competitive people as they fuel you to work harder. You may be frustrated when surrounded by people who are not driven by competition. The ultimate goal for you is to win. Even if you meet a personal goal you will feel more fueled and excited if you outperformed others.

Things to rememver when working with competition: it is important to ensure you are all working hard/motivated towards a goal and that there are clear measurements in place for their performance. Evaluations can be really helpful and motivating for individuals with competition. If they are working closely with you, know it is because they see you as a worthy competitor.

CONNECTEDNESS

Individuals with high connectedness believe that everything happens for a reason and that we are all connected to one another. You may develop a strong values system based on not harming or exploiting others (by doing this you would be hurting yourself). You likely are a bridge builder and help connect individuals with different backgrounds. You know that there is a purpose for your life and likely have a strong faith (not necessarily for a specific religion).

Things to remember when working with connectedness: they can be wonderful at helping others with conflict understand one another. If you can incorporate a way for them to help others into their current role it can be very fulfilling to them.

CONSISTENCY

Individuals with high consistency value balance and fairness. You believe that everyone should be treated equally and may see one of your roles being a guardian against unfair advantages. You enjoy environments where rules are clear and applied to everyone equally and appreciate clear expectations. In this environment you believe everyone has a fair chance to demonstrate their worth.

Things to remember when working with consistency: it is important to include them in any decisions about rules and regulations and to establish clear expectations from the outset. There may be some conflicts in teams with consistency and individualization.

CONTEXT

Context involves a need to look back in order to understand the present. You need to ask questions and understand the initial intentions behind previous decisions before you can feel confident in making decisions in the present. You make better decisions when you have time to think about the underlying structure (or blueprints) from the past. You may face some challenges/need time to orient yourself to new people and situations but you can become a better colleague because you seek to understand how your colleagues came to be who they are now.

Things to remember when working with context: allow them ample time to think through and investigate things and do not press them for an immediate decision. If you are planning to bring up something with them sending them information about in advance can be helpful. Conflicts can arise between people with high context and high futuristic themes.

DELIBERATIVE

Individuals with deliberative likely take their time in thinking through the implications of every action they take. You see the world as being filled with risks and prepare yourself by assessing and reducing each risk. You may prefer planning ahead so you can anticipate what could go wrong. You may be a private and fairly serious person. You see life as a minefield--you identify dangers, weigh their impact, and place your feet deliberatively.

Things to remember when working with deliberative: ensure they have plenty of time to think through decisions. Be careful in asking personal information and understand they may not enjoy icebreakers.

DEVELOPER

Developers see the potential and possibilities in every person and gain energy from seeing growth in others. Your goal is to help others experience success so you try to provide opportunities and challenges that can help them grow. You are always on the lookout for signs of growth which bring you satisfaction. You likely have others seek you out for encouragement and help.

Things to remember when working with developer: be open about the goals or areas where you may want to grow and they will look to help you get there. They are less likely to give up on someone just because they are not showing growth. Ensure you provide them opportunities to interact with people over time.

DISCIPLINE

Discipline involves an ability to maintain productivity and deliver results in a structured, predictable environment. You likely have routines and focus on timelines/deadlines. Your routines help you to feel in control despite the chaos of everyday life. You likely do not enjoy surprises, are frustrated by errors, and are very detail oriented. These all help you to get things done.

Things to remember when working with someone with high discipline: it is important to establish a sense of structure. They likely enjoy the opportunity to do detail-oriented work and would prefer a routine, so attempt to keep more structured hours for them. Understand why they have a need for control and help for them to establish control over their work.

EMPATHY

Empathy involves an understanding and ability to sense the emotions of those around you. You likely see people gravitate towards you when they are having a bad day. You help individuals express their feelings and anticipate the needs of others. This can be particularly powerful in groups and teams.

Things to remember when working with empathy: understand that they likely need to someone to support and check in with them as well. They also probably enjoy working more directly with people and may serve as very capable mediators.

FOCUS

Individuals with high levels of focus need to have a clear destination in mind and likely set and revisit goals frequently. You become frustrated/less productive if you don't have a destination in mind. When making decisions or taking action you always evaluate if the action will help you move toward your goal making you an asset to a team. You help keep others on point and focused on the goal at hand. You can be frustrated by delays and obstacles.

Things to remember when working with focus: check in to make sure you have the same goal in mind. They can concentrate for hours but again only if they have a goal in mind. Understand that they want to keep things on track in meetings and therefore may not appreciate chit chat/tangential conversations.

FUTURISTIC

Futuristic individuals can be visionaries, seeing in detail what the future may hold. You are likely a dreamer and see visions of the future. Sharing these visions with others and painting a beautiful portrait for others is important to you. You likely take time to think about the exact words you use to convey your vision. You can be inspirational to others and these visions towards the future help to inspire you. You may be frustrated by individuals who are very pragmatic.

Things to remember when working with futuristic: allow them the room and freedom to dream and think about the future. They may not enjoy getting bogged down in the future. These are great individuals to have in brainstorming sessions.

HARMONY

Individuals with harmony look for areas of agreement and likely feel there is little to be gained by focusing on conflict. If conflict emerges your goal is to find a common ground and look for consensus and support. When you are in a team if you feel the rest of the team shifting directions you modify your own objectives to merge with theirs in order to maintain harmony. You tend to steer clear of debates (unless they address your basic values). You see everyone as being in the same boat and don't see the need to rock the boat. You likely prefer more collaborative working environments.

Things to remember when working with harmony: team environments that value consensus for decision-making can be very empowering. These individuals are wonderful assets to a team.

IDEATION

Individuals with high ideation thrive on ideas and gain energy from generating new ideas. You constantly strive to find connections and see ideas as one type of connection. You are likely perceived as intelligent, creative, original, or conceptual. You are thrilled by ideas, both generating them and hearing others' ideas.

Things to remember when working with ideation: they likely value some independence and freedom to have different ideas and time to brainstorm/think aloud. They may enjoy generating ideas but not necessarily executing them.

INCLUDER

Many of you likely have includer as a theme. It involves ensuring that all individuals feel a part of the group, the goal being to expand the group so that as many people as possible can benefit from the group. You tend to avoid judging people and feel that fundamentally people are all the same, all deserving to be included not ignored. This may attract individuals like you to get involved in things like New Student Programs.

Things to remember when working with includer: it is important to understand that they dislike being involved in an exclusive group so as much as possible try to allow all individuals to be involved in the process in some way.

INDIVIDUALIZATION

Individuals high in individualization are intrigued by what makes each and every person unique, focusing on the differences between people. You likely are able to see other people's strengths and can draw out the best in each person. You may be particularly helpful in hiring new individuals and gauging their fit for a team. You likely prefer to allow people to do a lot of what they do really well.

Things to remember when working with individualization: understand they likely prefer to have a tailored approach to each and every person and may not like clear rules and regulations. They likely see a lot of the gray area.

INPUT

Input involves the collection and storage of things--information, objects, etc. You collect things because they are interesting to you and you likely find many things interesting. You collect and store information because you will never know when you might be able to use it or when it might come in handy. You likely don't like to throw things away. You are likely naturally inquisitive.

Things to remember when working with input: understand they like to take a fact and run with it but this can sometimes get them off task (they may get on the internet and three hours later just click link after link after link).They appreciate the freedom to do research and enjoy sharing this information with others.

INTELLECTION

Intellection involves a great deal of reflection and introspection. You enjoy thinking and mental activity, whether it is focused or unfocused. You likely appreciate time alone for reflection and to collect your thoughts. You also likely enjoy intellectual conversations.

Things to remember when working with intellection: they need quiet/alone time to think through their ideas and do not like being pressured to make a decision. Do not be offended if they prefer to skip happy hour/after work socialization, this is likely decompression time for them.

LEARNER

Learners love to learn and enjoy they process of learning more than the outcome. You likely engage in learning experiences after college or outside of your courses. You enjoy working in a dynamic work environment where you are challenged to learn a lot about a subject matter in a short period of time before moving on to the next short project. You don't necessarily want to become an expert, you just love the process of learning.

Things to remember when working with a learner: provide them opportunities to do short amounts of research or study on topics they are unfamiliar with. They likely also appreciate new trainings and information.

MAXIMIZER

Maximizers are focused on identifying good things and making them great. You are likely focused on identifying and searching for other people's strengths. Once you find a strength you feel compelled to nurture it and refine it toward excellence. You may avoid others (namely developers) who want to fix you and help you become more well-rounded; you are likely more interested in focusing on your strengths.

Things to remember when working with maximizer: it is important to be aware that they may become really frustrated when working with things or people they see as being low potential. Help identify things that are good and help them make those items great.

POSITIVITY

Positivity is all about looking for the positive in every situation; being an eternal optimist. You likely exude a positive energy and others find your enthusiasm contagious. People are likely drawn to you/like to be around you. You bring a sense of celebration and fun into the office and likely have a great sense of humor. You are likely drawn to fun, fast-paced environments.

Things to remember when working with positivity: it is important to know that negativity can be very draining for this person. They likely surround themselves with other positive people and feed off the positivity of others. While it is helpful to ground things in reality, allow positivity people to spread their energy and raise the mood.

RELATOR

Relators believe in creating a few very deep, close relationships with others. It doesn't mean you can't make other friendships but you primarily focus on strengthening your relationships with the few key people in your inner circle. You derive a great deal of strength and energy from being around your close friends. You also value genuiness in relationships and are willing to take the risk and be vulnerable with another person to help deepen your relationship.

Things to remember when working with relator: understand you may not be in their inner circle. Know that they value honesty and genuineness so be direct with them.

RESPONSIBILITY

For individuals with high responsibility their word is their bond. When you commit to doing something you take ownership over that and feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. If something is not completed you feel you need to make a restitution and don't believe in making excuses or rationalizations. You are very dependable and reliable but do have an obsession for doing things right. Learn to be selective in what you commit to.

Things to remember when working with responsibility: make sure you don't ask for their help on something that will not happen. Really weigh the importance of the project before consulting with them. In addition, don't make excuses with them as they get frustrated by this. They may also expect others to also have their high sense of responsibility.

RESTORATIVE

Individuals with high restorative love to solve problems. You're energized when something isn't working and you are able to fix it. You enjoy bringing things back to life and restoring them to their true glory. The types of problems you prefer to solve vary greatly based upon your other themes (some prefer practical problems, others conceptual, personal, sometimes familiar problems or complex/unfamiliar ones). You derive great satisfaction knowing that without your help this thing may not have ever been fixed.

Things to remember when working with restorative: it is important to embrace the fact that they like challenges and problems and provide them the opportunity to problem-solve in the moment. Get to know what types of problems are most thrilling for them to solve.

SELF-ASSURANCE

Self-assurance is the least common of the 34 themes. Individuals with high self-assurance have faith in their ability to do something and in their judgment. You trust that you are the utmost authority/are accountable for your life and that ultimately you will make the best decision for you. You are not likely to be swayed by someone else's arguments. How this plays out varies greatly depending on your other themes but your self-assurance helps keep you on track.

Things to remember when working with self-assurance: know they may like autonomy and freedom to make their own direction. Provide them with tasks that are challenging as these tend to be most energizing for these individuals.

SIGNIFICANCE

Individuals with high significance are always striving to make an impact and be recognized and heard. Specifically, you likely want to be known for the unique strengths you bring. You want to be seen as successful and credible and gravitate towards others who are seen this way. In work you likely see work as a way of life and prefer to have free rein to do things how you want to do them. You likely have goals and qualifications you want to achieve and your theme helps get you there.

Things to remember when working with significance: it is important to ensure you acknowledge/recognize their hard work. In addition, provide them a goal but allow them to get to the goal in whatever way works best for them.

STRATEGIC

Individuals with strategic have a unique thought process/perspective that enables them to see patterns, gauge what things might happen, and select the best possible path, their strategy. You can evaluate the obstacles you might face and once you have determined your path you strike forward.

Things to remember when working with strategic: it is important to allow them opportunities to brainstorm/think creatively about next steps. Understand that their unique thought process helps them to make decisions they believe in.

WOO

Woo, also known as winning others over, is rooted in enjoying the challenge of meeting new people and getting them to like you. you likely enjoy finding some common interest with a stranger; once you've made the connection you easily move on to meet someone else new. This meeting of new people is energizing and fun for you. You are likely skilled and gifted at networking.

Things to remember when working with woo: allow them the opportunity to be the spokesperson and do boothing, they very likely enjoy striking up conversations with strangers. Sometimes woo can be seen as shallow; they typically want to create a large net of new acquaintances as opposed to a few deep connections.
