LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

  • The Legislative Branch, also known as Congress, makes our national laws.
  • Congress is composed of two houses: the Senate and House of Representatives.
  • This is called bicameral legislature.
  • The Senate is based on equal representation with 2 seantors from each state.
  • The House is based on population with 435 total Congressmen.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH

  • The executive branch is composed of the President, Vice President, and Cabinet
  • The executive branch is responsible for carrying out the laws.
  • The President is also Commander-in-Chief of the military.
  • The president serves 4 year terms
  • They may run for President again, but may not serve more than 2 years.

JUDICIAL BRANCH

  • The judicial branch is the branch of government repsponsible for interpreting laws.
  • This branch consists of 9 Supreme Court Justices appointed by the President and approved by Congress
  • The Supreme court has an important power of judicial review meaning they can overturn a lower court decision or declare actions of Congress or the President unconstitutional.
