JOSIAH

BEGINNING OF LIFE

• Became King of Judah in 609/610 B.C after his fathers assassination.
• Also became king at 8 years old.
• Reigned 31 years as King of Judah.
• Mother-Adiah from Bozkath
• Father-King Amon/he did wrong in the eyes of the Lord and was assassinated.

WHERE IS HE METIONED?

• Josiah is first openly mentioned in 2nd Kings Chapter 22:1
• Although he is also mentioned in the verses below.
• (2nd Kings 24:30) (2nd Chronicles 34:1) (2nd Chronicles 35:1)
• (2nd Kings 23 29-30) 2nd Chronicles (35 20-27)

WHAT JOSIAH DID

• Josiah as a young ruler,undertook reforms to stop idol worship.
• At age 25,he decides to rebuild a temple of the Lord that hasn't been rebuilt since a century earlier.
• While cleaning the temple they found a book that looked important so they gave Haikiah who gave it to Josiah.
• The book turned out to be the bible. Well for that period of time it was, it was the Jewish Bible meaning the first 5 books of our bible today.

JOSIAH'S REVIVAL

• After finding the bible,king Josiah then set up a campaign to follow the Lord's instructions found in the bible.
• First he assembled at the population of Jerusalem, and read the bible out to the people and told them to pledge to it.
• Next he toured Judah and Israel destroying idols and statues and false worship.
• Finally Josiah held the Passover feast honoring the Lord's work in freeing the Israelites from Egypt.

JOSIAH'S ENDING REIGN

• In His 31st year as king,he faced a national crisis.
• Egypt was planning to attack on the Euphrates river but they had to go through Judah to get there,
• Josiah refuesd to allow the foreign army on his soil. He mustered his army to take a stand.
• However he was killed in battle,Jehoaz his son then takes over as king.
